women hold up half the sky

I am sitting at the lovely cafe/gallery called Local 123 drinking a very beautiful hot chocolate and enjoying the poster exhibit Women Hold Up Half the Sky – Posters of the 1970′s and 1980′s. The show, curated by Lincoln Cushing has an opening reception Thursday, April 15 from 5-7 pm at the cafe. According to the shows postcard, Cushing will also give a lecture Saturday, May 1 at 5 pm.

Since arriving in Berkeley, I have consistently been reminded of the richness of its political history and the work being done to keep that sense alive. From cool (though small) exhibitions like the one here to sites like chickenonaunicycle.com there are great efforts to preserve that unique visual heritage.

Pivot Gallery Live !

I am very excited to announce the launch of the first artist portfolio at Pivot Gallery!

The site is live and the first (of many to follow) artist portfolio features the work of photographer Mark Winicov. He has been working in photography for over 20 years and is currently residing and teaching photography in Philadelphia, PA. His technically precise conceptual images show a deep understanding of the intensity that a photograph can have while maintaining a surprising, subtle playfulness. See his work here: www.pivotartgallery.com

While the inaugural show features a photographer, the Gallery will present a wide variety of works and artists including painting, video and “emerging aesthetics” – a term which describes a sense of art viewed through various media, avenues of expression, and the intersection of these that reveals a unique contemporary arts perspective. Pivot Gallery will showcase the important work contemporary artists are doing and aims to provide high-quality art and striking exhibitions in an engaging conversation with art creators, viewers, collectors, and the greater community.
